Favorite Austin Restaurants

Photo of Rebel Cheese

I have been eating plant-based since my fourteenth birthday in 2010, and I have been fully committed to a vegan lifestyle since 2014. It has been a mission of mine to find the best vegan restaurants wherever I live, and Rebel Cheese is definitely one of the best in Austin. They specialize in a spectacular variety of artisan vegan cheeses, and they also serve excellent sandwiches, salads, pastries and soups. Rebel Cheese is my favorite spot for a brunch date because there is something so romantic about fancy cheeses! I highly recommend getting the Twisted Sam sandwich along with a charcuterie board.

Nissi VegMex is hands-down my favorite Mexican food in all of Austin. I love bringing my meat-eating friends here because even they can not get enough of it. Their flautas were my favorite thing to get when Nissi was a tiny food truck, but the menu only got bigger and better after they transitioned to a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Everything on the menu is superb, but I can not help but order the birria tacos every time I visit. You can not go wrong with the burritos, flautas, chalupas or any of their delicious items, but make sure you get some of their incredible chips and queso on the side!

Once upon a time, I stumbled upon this little vegan pizza truck, Lil Nonnas , on accident while driving through Austin. I was delighted to find some of the greatest slices of pizza that I have ever had. Although they have eight spectacular styles of pizzas, I love sticking with the Beeteroni and cheese. This is their take on the classic pepperoni and cheese pizza, but they use dehydrated beet slices as the pepperonis. They can make every one of their pizzas gluten free, which is perfect for when I need to take my gluten-intolerant mom out to eat while she is visiting!
